To Stink or Not To Stink?

That is the question! Let's talk about deodorant again, shall we? I was surprised to read recently that even some "natural" deodorants on the market today contain aluminum! Namely, those "crystal rock" deodorants that have been popular for many years, yup, they still have aluminum in them. Read more about it here! We already know aluminum increases the risks of developing Alzheimer's, but did you know it can also contribute to breast cancer!! This article found on Dr. Mercola's website explains recent findings linking antiperspirants and deodorants containing aluminum to breast cancer.

The thing is many people will go ahead and take the risk in order to avoid offensive stinking. I mean really, who wants to smell bad?? About 4 years ago I was still using big-name antiperspirants and I started developing majorly swollen glands under my arms. It was painful and alarming and I knew it was because of the antiperspirants. So, I started buying "healthy" deodorants from the health food store....I tried every single one they had on the shelf and I still stunk. I mean, you know you really need something better when you stink 30 minutes after getting out of the shower!!

So I started my quest to make a natural, aluminum free, paraben free, phthalate free deodorant that would actually WORK!!! I spent around 4 months of trial and error until I perfected my No Offense Deodorants. I worked on consistency and finding the right combination of ingredients to last without stinking and without toxic chemicals! I have to say, my deodorant is my invention I am most proud of. And when I closed my shop for maternity leave it was the one thing people were stocking up on in a big way! Why? Because it works and no one wants to smell bad!

If you haven't tried my No Offense Deodorants you can find them on Etsy and on Hyena Cart. My deodorant may take a little getting used to, it isn't clear! It goes on white and feels like a thick lotion. But in the long run it is so worth it! You don't have to feel like you have to risk your health in order to avoid stinking, alternatives are available ;) I make my No Offense Deodorants in men's, women's and unisex fragrances so that anyone can have a healthy alternative to stinky pits and toxic chemicals!

Off to a Walking Start

So I've been back in business about a month now. Things have been sllllooooowww, both on Etsy and on Hyena Cart. I know a lot of that is because I've been so busy and haven't been listing things as much as I should. I am making new things and having a ball though!!

Lipstick has been my new creative outlet! So far I've come up with 4 colors and I'm trying to come up with names at the moment so I can list them :) I have many more color ideas running through my head too. The trouble with being creative is that many times all the ideas running around in your head keep you awake at night... *yawn*

I also am trying to work on new photos for my items. I would love some catchy ideas for photographing makeup if you have any! I have to work on capturing the colors accurately and artistically. My pics look blah to me right now, but maybe that's because I've been looking at them for years already! Time for some updated pics ;)

Anyway, all that to say I feel like I am off to a walking start, not at all a running start. It's a very slow walk LOL, but at least I am not standing still ;)

Oh My Happy Face!!

I've been working on some amazing things over here, and let me tell you my skin is very happy about it! I have the joy of testing out all my new formulas and slathering them on my family members to see how wonderful they are. Man do I love my job!! I completed the core skin care products in my Happy Face line, now totally paraben free and better than ever! Most of the items are listed here at my new Hyena Cart shop.

I've already completed the Deep Cleanser, Astringent, and Lotion for normal, combination, oily and acne prone skin as well as the Gentle Cleanser, Toner and Cream for normal, dry, sensitive and mature skin types. These are the core of the skin care set, for use twice a day. The Toner and Gentle Cleanser are not listed yet because I still need to take their photos ;)

I also have luxurious eye cream and serum listed and ready to go! Both of these products will benefit people with any skin type. These are so pampering!! I feel like I've had a spa facial, but I didn't have to shell out the big bucks to get the results, and neither do you! These are available for great prices, and really you will love the results. People are noticing and commenting on how my skin, as well as my tester's skin, looks firmer, more even and younger!

I'm also working on some simply amazing masks!! Four to be exact, two gel masks and two clay masks. I'm not quite done with these, but I've almost got them just right. More about these later ;)

As I mentioned, I now have a shop on Hyena Cart! Since I came back to Etsy things have been very slow, so I wanted a site that I had more control over. Hyena offers me that! I'm working on putting up all my items over there and giving the page my own look. It's not finished yet, but it will be soon! If you haven't checked out Hyena Cart you should stop by, they have some lovely products available over there :)

In My Spare Time...

Hahaha!!! Yup, even as crazy busy I have been with three kids and homeschooling, I sometimes have a spare moment. This week, in my spare time, I managed to reformulate my No Offense Deodorant, came up with names for all the new products I have been working on, re-organized my work space, went through old paperwork and even designed a few new labels! Phew!

I have some No Offense Deodorant up in my shop... 5 available in Oakmoss Sandalwood :) Enjoy!

Back in Action!

Yesterday I reopened my Etsy shop, and it feels SO good to be back in action! Yes, my kids and new baby keep me extremely busy, but my little side business provides me with some "me" time to express my creativity.

Upon returning I had to reorder some supplies, and sadly discovered that many of the ingredients in my No Offense Deodorant were much more expensive then when I closed. I am currently reformulating and trying to get the price more reasonable, because if I kept making the old formula I would have to more than double my old price. Ouch!! Don't worry though, I will make sure it works as good or better than the old one and I will try to keep the price as low as I can. :)

I also have been dreaming up a new skin care line and will introduce it soon!! I am so excited to have a full skin care line for my customers! This was something I didn't really have time to work on while I was open before, so I used some of my down time to work on it. I will have a set for normal/oily/troubled skin and a set for normal/dry/mature skin as well as a few things for any skin type. Sounds complicated, but really I will be streamlining and keeping things simple for you, and for me!

Other new things in the shop are that I am no longer doing custom orders, what you see is what you get! In order to keep up with my 3 children I will only be making products on Saturdays and listing only what I have available. This will allow me to ship faster than ever though, so you will get your goodies ASAP! I will most likely be able to ship on the next business day from when I receive an order :D I will also only be making small batches of everything so that you are insured fresh products.

I am going to eliminate many of my Mineral Eye and 3-in-1 colors also, but will keep the best ones. Let me know if there is a color you gotta have and I will try to include it in the line! I'll also be revamping my Lip Tints, but am offering my all original colors for now. Get them while you can!

You may be wondering what the baby picture has to do with any of this...nothing actually ;) I just think she's adorable and had to share!

Cloth Diaper Sewing :)

Just wanted to let you all know that baby girl is growing well and I am taking it easy as I am supposed to. I am spending some time sewing cloth diapers, wipes, wet bags and other goodies for cloth diapering her. I'm using a pattern from Ubber Domestic on Etsy, and love it! It's pretty much a one-size-fits-all pattern that can be adapted to any type of diaper you could want! I am doing fitteds with snap in soakers, wool covers, PUL covers, and a few pocket diapers too :) Pictured here are a few fitteds!

Updates + Holiday News!

So, as you can see, my shop did not stay closed through Thanksgiving week. We were planning to go on a trip to see family, but we all got really sick instead :( Because of this, I am changing the day that I will start my maternity leave. Instead of being open through December I will be closing on December 17th! If you need anything from my shop stock up, and your last day to order will be December 16th!!

Also, to celebrate the Holidays I will be offering free shipping on all orders within the US, starting TODAY and continuing until the day I close! This is a great chance to stock up! Remember, I am not sure when I will reopen, so get what you need now. I have lots of everything, if you need anything special just convo me :)

If you need deodorant you can either order one that I have listed, or convo me for a custom order (I don't have many scents listed but they are ALL still available). You can also get as many as you like in whatever scent you want! Just ask :)

If you would like a perfume oil I can make them in ANY scent also! I have not listed them because I have been feeling so rotten, but they are available and make great stocking stuffers! These are $8 each, and shipping is free in the US! If you would like one, just convo me. Ingredients are jojoba oil and either fragrance oil or essential oil. Very pure and wonderful perfumes, I have one in my purse all the time now in my Rice Flower and Shea scent. LOVE it!!

Taking it easy!

As I mentioned in my last post, I am pregnant and due in May! Pictured above is my little Gummy Bear a few weeks ago :) While I love running my little Etsy shop and serving my awesome customers, I have been feeling stretched a bit too thin since the start of this pregnancy. Pregnancy is not an easy time for any women, but I have a particularly rough time with it. In the past I have had surgery while pregnant and have spent a lot of time on bed rest. Of course my kids are SO worth it, and I am happy to have the opportunity to have another one! So, while I am hoping and praying for the best this time around, I am also trying to take it easy and pace myself. My energy has been quite low.,

So, I have made the decision to take a maternity leave! I will be closing my shop at the end of December and I am not sure when or if I will reopen. I really just need to focus on being a mom and spending my energy on my kids, because there is not a whole lot of energy to go around these days. I will also be putting my shop on vacation next week, because I will be visiting family and not getting on the computer at all!

Shop will be closed from Nov. 16-29, then closed again at the end of December indefinitely. This means it's time to stock up!! I have lots of deodorants in stock (about 50 tubes ready to be filled) so if you are hooked on No Offense Deodorant stock up now! I don't have a whole lot of listings posted, but I do have these available in ANY of my scents, just ask. I also have plenty of everything else in my shop! Get it while you can and stock up!

New Tubes

Just an update on what's going on over here! I will be transitioning to a new type of tube for my deodorants. These are a better design and the lid comes on and off easier, so I think you will like them a lot. This change will be coming into affect as soon as I run out of the old tubes! Look for the new design in my shop next week!

Also, the perfume oils were not forgotten! I have just been very busy and dealing with morning sickness, so adding new products hasn't been my top priority! Yes, I am due in May to have my third child! We are so excited!

I've been working on something new, perfume oil! I am putting together some really wonderful perfume oils in some little roller-ball bottles and I am loving it!! I have a few signature scents I am working on that will be 100% natural perfume oils, as well as some really classy phthalate free scents. These will be available in any of my scents, as well as some of my new signature scents that are only available in these perfumes. Look for some classics like Patchouli too :) I'm really excited about these and will be introducing them in my shop in the next few weeks! I've also made up a few more of my Hair and Body Sprays in some amazing men's scents! I'll be listing these soon too!

A New Twist!

Well, it's been a while since I posted anything, because I have been exceedingly busy. Business as far as my shop goes has been slllloooooowwww, but life has kept me full tilt! Because of this I have discontinued several of my more time consuming products, and plan to discontinue a few more in the next few months. In the beginning of this year I set out to stream line my shop, and that is still my goal! Products that I have discontinued are mascara, eye primer and stretch mark cream. I am also no longer going to make most of my soaps once they sell out!

I will be adding some new things to my shop though. Namely some amazing glycerin soaps, a paraben free lotion and some more facial care products. BUT, I am taking my time launching these because I am really just so busy over here. I will continue to sell my deodorants and makeup also, but I may drop a few colors.

Anyway, that's just an update! I hope you all are enjoying your Spring/Summer!!

Perfect Pearl Primer

I've been wanting to make a primer for a while, since many have requested one! Although you can use my Mineral Glow Veil as a primer as well, some with very dry sensitive skin may find it too drying. This new primer is the perfect solution! It is a luxurious blend of Silk and Pearls, which both aid in rejuvenating your skin, controlling shine and minimizing imperfections. I now use this product under my foundation during the day and also at night before bed as a skin care treatment. My skin has never been softer!!!

In addition to this amazing new primer, I also created a new foundation formula! Moisture Max Foundation is especially tailored to those with dry sensitive skin. It does not contain any of the ingredients that some may find too drying, like silica or kaolin clay. Instead it has a luscious creamy feel to it and gives a gorgeous youthful appearance to dry skin! I have dry skin myself and really love this foundation. And, the best part is, I was able to make all the same shades as the Mineral Silk Foundation!! So if you need a more moisturizing foundation it will be easy to transition to this new formula!

Staying in Business

I wanted to let everyone know about some changes in my shop and the reasons behind them. Although these changes have been in affect for a while, I am just letting everyone know officially.

First change, I will not be giving out any free samples to beauty gurus, youtubers, or bloggers. It is not that I do not appreciate those of you who have done reviews for me; I think you all are fabulous and I thank you from the bottom of my heart! It is just that most of those I have sent free samples to have never done any review for me, they have simply taken freebies and I have gotten nothing in return. So, those scammers have left me very skeptical and I will not send out freebies to anyone, period. I will also not respond to your convos on Etsy, because I get entirely too many every day to spend time answering all of you.

Second change, I will only include freebies in orders over $50. When I first started up my business I included free samples with every order. As time has progressed I have realized that I do not have the time or resources to continue giving away so many freebies. Also, many times I just have no idea what to give as a freebie! Free samples still cost me money, and time, which cuts into my ability to provide reasonable prices and excellent service. I would rather get your order out to you fast and keep my prices low!

The main reason behind these changes is that I have to stay in business. The whole reason I run this business is to help provide for my kids, it’s not a hobby for me. If I don’t turn a profit, I won’t stay in business. My family relies on the money I make to pay for many things each month. So, as much as I would LOVE to give free samples to everyone, I have to control myself ;)

Starting today I WILL include a sample item with each order over $50! Each month I will choose an item that will be included with these orders. May’s item will be a FREE Cherry Vanilla Lip Balm with every order over $50!!

It's Sunscreen Honey!!

Acai Berry Anti-Oxidant Sunscreen Lotion

It is here!! Listed and ready to order! Just in time for Summer! Yay!! Damage from the sun ages you so much, prevent the damage with this anti-oxidant rich sunscreen lotion! I'm seriously in love with this stuff. Before I made this I can not say I used sunscreen every day :( I did (and still do) use my mineral makeup on my face, but my arms, hands and anything else not covered by clothing were exposed too much to the suns damaging rays. Store bought chemical based sunscreens burnt my sensitive skin, so I never used them. This stuff is so light and not sticky or smelly like other sunscreens, so it does not bother me to wear it. I am proud to say that now that I created this stuff I happily wear it every day, even under my makeup as my day time facial lotion. :D And I slather it on my kids too, they don't mind at all! Yay! ~Lucy

In other vegan news, I just made up a batch of No Offense Vegan Deodorant in Perfect Peach! Why Perfect Peach? Well, I needed a deo for myself and I was in a peachy mood. I even made some of my Hair and Body Spray in Perfect Peach too, for scent layering purposes ;)

I'll be listing the deo and spray soon! As soon as I can get some photos of them. You see, my camera broke from someone dropping it one too many times (no names). And so I am forced to use my husband's camera to take my product shots now. The problem? Well he is hardly ever home and uses his camera for work... *sigh* But he said he will leave it here for me tomorrow :)

Ok, now I need to cook some actual food and stop making other things... for a little while at least :D

Happy Face Skin Care

I have still been exceedingly busy, but I did manage to get my Happy Face Skin Care line posted in my shop! I developed these products to help my maturing daughter with her troubled skin. With some encouragement from everyone who tried this line, I decided to start selling it! I have been seeing amazing results with this line! The lotion and astringent are formulated to help balance your skin, providing necessary moisture and controlling excess sebum production. Been So Busy!

I've had a plan in my mind for a while now; to organize my shop, get rid of some things, post some new things, make new color charts, etc. But life keeps getting too busy to get this done and I keep putting it all off. *sigh*

So, even though I had planned on getting all this done this month, looks like maybe it will happen next month. I did start a new blog today though, which I have been wanting to do! It's all about my backyard :D which is part of why I have been so stinkin busy! Check it out it out here if you would like ;)

Ya know, sometimes I think I need to hire an assistant. This whole one woman show thing isn't working! Ahh, well, at least I have a job! Which is a blessing :D

Shop Open and Some Other News!

My shop is now back up and running!! Yay!! I am still not totally back to normal though, so I will only be shipping two days a week for a while; Tuesday and Saturday.

I am also having a FREE SHIPPING SALE from now till January 15th!! It's my way of saying Happy New Year and getting 2010 off to a good start :)

Other things to look for in January, I will be introducing several new products! I have what I call my Happy Face line coming to the shop soon. It's an amazing facial line for blemished or unbalanced skin and includes an astringent and a facial lotion, which can be used with either our Tea Tree Face Soap or our Gentle Face Soap.

My testers are in love with this facial set and I can't wait to share it with you all!! I have been using it too, even on my extremely sensitive dry skin it works great! Both the astringent and the lotion are blended with wonderful essential oils that aid in balancing the skin.

I will also be listing my two new colors; Pickles and Pretty, so keep an eye on the shop! And I am working on a NEW foundation for dry skin!!!

I've been preparing to close for a while, tucking in all my precious creations for safe keeping while I recover from surgery. All the goodies are put away, safe and sound :)

Surgery Rescheduled :(

Well, there has been a change of plans. Just got back from my pre-op visit and the doctor said we need to postpone the surgery for two weeks due to the illness I am recovering from and the medicines I am on :( I am super disappointed that it has to be put off, but I guess that's life.

So, the new schedule is for the 9th of December. I will be putting my shop on vacation on the 8th of December. This means you have more time to do Christmas shopping :)

Purple Mascara and Other News :)

I worked on some gorgeous purple mascara today, and I am so pleased with how it came out! It is a nice rich deep purple, in my same fabulous formula as the black and brown. I just LOVE purple on eyes, and now you can have it on your lashes too!

As far as I know my surgery will still be on the 25th, and I will still be closing my shop on the 24th! (I see the doc on Monday to finalize things) If you need ANYTHING now is the time to get it! I will most likely NOT be back in time for Christmas shopping, so please order now if you need anything for Christmas :)

All Booked Up!!

Well, it's official! I will be getting the hardware out of my ankle on November 25th! Although it may be weird to be excited about a surgery, I have to admit I am! I am looking forward to being free of hives and pain in the future, although I know surgery is NEVER fun.

I will be placing my shop on vacation mode on November 24th, which will also be my last shipping day till I am able to create again. This means your last day to order will be November 23rd! I don't anticipate being out of commission for too long this time; maybe a week, maybe two, who knows really though.

Because I am not sure how long it will take for me to be able to work again, if you want anything for Christmas from my shop now is the time to get it!

Happy Accident!!

First of all, I would like to clear something up! Apparently, there are companies out there mass producing mineral makeup and selling it wholesale for people to package up and resell. Some people have asked if my products are like this, for the record they are NOT! I make each and every one of my colors from scratch and they are my own unique formulas! If they happen to look similar to another product out there or share the name of another product out there that is purely coincidental! Every single one of my mineral colors has been custom blended by me :)

Now, that being said, I had a very happy accident while mixing up one of my Velvet Collection colors the other day! I used the wrong amount of one of my ingredients and I knew it immediately because the color didn't look right. It didn't look like the color I was trying to make, but it was GORGEOUS!!! Just when I thought I could keep my current color charts for a while I had to go and make a new color LOL!

It is a beautiful, pure matte, neutral pinky beigey kinda color. I have been wearing it out to 'test' it the past few days and have a new favorite! I am using it as a very natural looking blush and eye shadow! As a WAHM, I don't normally get super dolled up on a regular day, but I also don't go without makeup since I am representing my company where ever I go! This color is just so fabulous, because it looks so natural, but so pretty and put together at the same time!

I only have enough for me made at the moment, but will totally be making more!! I know you will love this color!! Gotta get some pics of it too, I think I will just call it Pretty :) I also have a few other colors rolling around in my head that I need to make, mainly blushes and 3-in-1 Colors! This chart is going to need to grow!

Procrastination......I'm so guilty!!

Well, as many of you know, I have been having allergic reactions to the stainless steel that was placed in my ankle to repair it after it broke. It has been since March 30th that I have been dealing with this, frustrating to say the least! When I approached my doctor about the issue, he adamantly told me that the metal can not be taken out till it has had time to "mature" 6 months. Well, it was 6 months at the end of September and I have not been back to the doctor yet.....

So, why am I procrastinating about this so much??? For one thing money has been tight here and every time I have the $50 copay to go in something else comes up! At least that was my excuse for a while :) Now I do have the money to go in, but other things keep coming up. My little one has been feeling sick and the thought of going in for surgery when he needs me makes me feel selfish.

Another issue is that my doctor is not all that sensitive.....he is down right insensitive and doesn't spend much time listening. I would consider going to another doctor, but know from previous experiences that other doctors usually don't want to deal with taking out what someone else has put in. And, I honestly have to admit that I am not looking forward to being cut on again!! Surgery sucks big time!!

Anyway, all of that just to say that I am making my appointment today and am not going to procrastinate about it any more!!! If I do have the surgery soon, I will most likely have to put my shop on vacation mode for a little bit. Last time I was able to keep it open and use a wheelchair to fill my orders. Since then I have moved and now have stairs, which would make it impossible to stay open. I will be closing shop until I am able to walk up and down the stairs again! So if you need anything from my shop, stock up now!! LOL!

Prayers are much appreciated!! This year has been SO hard!! Thank you and may Jesus smile on you today!!

Today I have the pleasure of telling you about a dear friend of mine, Diane, and her fabulous shop, Luscious Lather! Diane makes wonderful bath and body products that smell delish and are very pampering. She has a wealth of experience making quality products, and as anther B&B crafter, I know she knows her stuff! She and I have bought products from each other, and I really love her stuff; especially her foaming bath whip! It is super fun foaming goodness! Her glycerin soaps are simply gorgeous and make wonderful gifts, and her skincare line is wonderful too :)

Diane is also a super sweet person to work with, and takes a lot of time to package and ship her products carefully, make custom orders for people and truly cares about her customers! If you have not already tried out some of her luscious goodies, I highly recommend her shop! And as another bath and beauty seller, that is no small recommendation ;)

Gotta Love It!!

I am so so so happy that I finally got this mascara formula just right! It seems like I have been working on it for ages! I felt so silly even wearing eye shadow without mascara, because I seriously could not wear the store bought stuff. No more! I am in love with my new mascara creation and no longer have to suffer from naked eye lashes! I can wear it all day and not have watery itchy eyes, yay!!!

This mascara is currently available in Black and Brown, but I am hoping to add some other shades in the future...Navy maybe...Plum? Who knows! Let me know if you have any special mascara color requests!

Coming soon in my shop, Eye Primer! I am currently formulating an eye shadow primer! This eye primer will make problems with creasing a thing of the past! I am so excited about this stuff! Also coming soon, new blushes and 3-in-1 colors! Busy, busy, busy! As usual!!

Essential Oils and Safety for Pregnant Women

First I will say I LOVE essential oils! I have spent many years studying them, their benefits are many and of course they smell divine! At the same time there is a lot of misinformation about essential oils out in the world today. Many use them as though they are simple natural fragrances. Doing so can be dangerous for some people though, particularly pregnant women, small children, people with epilepsy, or high blood pressure. Essential oils carry concentrated plant chemicals in them, which can be dangerous if not handled properly. Here I have compiled a list of essential oils that should not be used by pregnant women. The purpose of this is to hopefully educate women and keep them and their babies safe. These oils are on the list for various reasons; some are more dangerous than others, some are only unsafe during the first trimester. Some at the bottom of the list are less common and should never be used on the skin by anyone (these are marked as such). As a rule of thumb while pregnant use extreme caution using any essential oils on the skin. Although many prefer using something natural, sometimes the synthetic scent may be safer. This list was compiled from my various reference books; it may not be all inclusive. Caution should always be used when pregnant!

Stepping it up!!

Well, today I walked a bit with my crutches off the ground! Yeehaw!! Yeah, I was limping, but my right ankle also supported my full weight!! Yeah, I am sore, but at least I did it! I am trusting God to finish the healing He has started in me, and know that I will be walking tall again soon!

Walking Again???

Well, not quite! I took a few little walks with my crutches, but still can not put my full weight on my right leg. Ouch, it hurts! I knew it would be hard, but had no idea it would be THIS hard! You know you hear of people having to learn how to walk again? Well I would always think how silly that sounded, why would someone have to relearn how to walk? How could they forget in just a few months?

I now understand exactly what this means. No, people don't forget how to walk, their muscles become very weak and they CAN'T walk. I am experiencing this now. My mind knows exactly what needs to be done, but my legs just aren't doing it. They sit there painfully protesting this activity. It is a real challenge to force them into motion again. It turns out my left ankle is sprained and my right ankle had extreme trauma that needs to be overcome. Walking in two braces is not easy either. It is very hard to balance and not fall again.

I know God is with me. This is just a real hard time. I appreciate all the prayers!

New Colors!!!

I spent some time formulating a few new colors this morning, and I think they are so pretty! One is a new 3-in-1 color (can be worn on eyes, cheeks or lips) and it is perfect for summer. It's a nice peachy shimmer that adds warmth and vitality to your summer look. I think I am going to call it Peach Glow. The other is a sparkly eye color that is a deep greyish blueish purpleish color. It's so gorgeous, but hard to explain! I think it will be called Twilight, after the time of day not the movie! Both of these new colors will be listed as soon as I have time to take some good pictures of them, so keep a look out for them! Hmmm, I might even make up a few more new colors if I feel inspired ~Lucy

A Journey in a Wheelchair

Well I have not been able to walk since March 24th, and now I am told I have one more week till I can start gradually putting weight on my right leg again. On March 30th I had a stainless steel plate and 7 screws put into my leg to stabilize the two broken bones in my ankle. It has been a very long hard road and I have learned a lot from this experience. I have learned that I don’t have to do everything myself, I do have a family who can and will help! I have learned just how difficult it is to function in a wheelchair and actually get things done. I have learned how to get in and out of my house by scooting on my butt and only using one leg, since there is no way in without getting over at least a few steps! I have a profound new respect for people who can deal with an inability to walk and don’t let it stop them.

Above all this has been another lesson to me in leaning on the Lord and letting Him be my strength. The Bible says we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us, and yet again He has shown me this is true. The day after I broke my ankle I just cried and cried. I had no idea how I was going to make it through this time. How was I supposed to care for my kids? Keep up with my business? Cook? Clean? Finish up with the last class of my degree (which was half way through when I was injured)? How was I supposed to endure the pain of another surgery and weeks of healing? The weeks ahead seemed so overwhelming I did not know how it would be possible to get through it all while in so much pain. But here I am now and I see that God has truly carried me through it all. It has been very hard, but God is also very faithful. He made a way for me to have help everyday with cooking, cleaning and caring for my kids. He gave me the grace to get everything done each day that I needed to do, and the patience to let other people do all the things I could not do!

In exactly one week I go back to the doctor and I am supposed to be able to start taking my first steps with a brace on. It will still be a long road and I know it won’t be easy, but I have the confidence that the Lord will carry me through this time too. There is nothing I can face in this life that is too much for Him. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

I have to admit it was kind of strange to see my face on the front page! Then to my surprise a treasury I was in made it to the Front Page too! It is a huge deal for me to be featured in this way! Groups like the Crisis Pregnancy Center (CPC)! The CPC helps educate women about their babies and helps those in need to gain access to the right resources to be able to care for their babies. A Rough Week

This week seemed like an endless stream of difficulties. You know the kind of week where each day has a pile of bad news as high as the pile of dirty laundry that you can’t get to because your kids are sick as well as you and your hubby and there is nothing easy to cook and then you get more bad news? Yeah, that kind of week! But, every time I felt like I just couldn’t take anymore, I would find God’s grace was sufficient for me.

He reminded me several times of how small my problems really are and that I need to slow down and enjoy life more. Being sick and having a house full of other sick people kind of forces you to slow down a bit. I was also reminded of how big God is! That all the difficult things are for a purpose; that everything, the good and the bad, is all being worked out for my good! I am leaving my stresses in God’s hands for a change and I feel so much better!

What is our country becoming?

Let’s take a look at the communist countries of the world to see if this is where we would like to live. There are a few that come to mind off the top of my head; China, Cuba, and North Korea immediately come to my mind but there are more. In each of these countries there is great poverty and suffering. In each of these countries there are leaders that will only accept obedience to their regime. This includes much religious persecution, particularly for Christians. While Marxism and communism may sound good to some in theory, we can see from history that in practice they have been detrimental to freedom.

So, what does this have to do with us in America? We are a free country right? Well with things going the way they are we won’t be for much longer. Not only is our president proposing outlandish “stimulus packages” that will not stimulate anything, he is also placing a lot of power directly in the White House without the constitutional checks and balances that were put in place to protect the people. He is removing our freedom to worship in ‘government funded’ locations and setting up a ‘faith-based’ council to report to him on the doings of major religions. Hmmm, sounds like too much power to me. Wasn’t America founded on the concept of FREEDOM for the people and LESS government??? Not to mention, where is all this money coming from???

What is most appalling to me, and what no one seems to realize the implications of, is the new transfer of the national census from an independent organization to the White House. Many just say, “So what?” and go on with their day. What many don’t realize is that this will give Washington to power to control and falsify the elections. We already saw how the election was falsified in many locations through ACORN’s fake votes, or republican votes being thrown away. Now what will happen come the next election if the White House is in control of the census? Wouldn’t it be easy for them to say there are greater numbers of people in the liberal states, therefore giving those liberal states more Electoral College votes?? This thought horrifies me.

We need to speak up! No matter what side of the fence you may be on in politics, I think we can all agree that we want our country to remain free, right? I know I do! I want to have to freedom to practice religion wherever I want! I want to have the confidence that my vote counts and that the people still have a voice!

Walking Through the Valley

It is so easy when we go through hard times to start to think that God has forgotten us. This year has started out so hard for so many people. With the masses of bills that need to be paid, and many losing their jobs and their homes, it seems we are surrounded by sadness lately. There have also been entirely too many illnesses going around! My family has been sick so much this year it seems like we just can’t catch a break!

In the midst of all this I am reminded that God has not left me, He promises to NEVER leave or forsake His children! He is faithfully watching over us as the Good Shepherd that He is, making sure that everything in our lives will be turned around for our GOOD and His GLORY! There is always HOPE in JESUS!!!

Psalm 23

A Psalm of David.

1 The LORD is my shepherd;
I shall not want.

You Use Cloth Diapers in 2009??

Yes! I do!! I recently started sewing my son cloth diapers and using them, and I wish I had switched sooner! Here is why. Not only is it better for the environment, it is also better for my baby and my pocketbook. Did you know that disposable diapers can cost between $1500 and $2500 before your baby potty trains? For me it was costing an average of $60 a month to keep my son in diapers. With a little research I found I could make a supply of diapers for my son for $100!!

Now I know what went through my mind when I first thought of using cloth diapers, “they’re going to be really bulky and are always going to be wet.” What I found out was there are new fabrics out there that wick moisture away from the skin AND they don’t have to be super huge and bulky either! When he is dressed you can’t even tell he is wearing a cloth diaper! I have found he has less rashes and irritation wearing cloth diapers too! No yucky chemicals next to the skin to bother him!

Now let me talk a little about the mountains of garbage that used to come out of my house each week! We have a big garbage can that was always filled to overflowing before the garbage man came each week. There were literally 8-10 bags each week filled mainly with diapers! The first week I switched to cloth diapers there were only 3 bags of garbage to put out!!! The can was only half full!!! Now imagine how much garbage I am keeping out of a landfill! Then imagine if more people switched to cloth, how much garbage we could keep from junking up God’s world??

Anyway, to all you mamas with little ones still in diapers, I am not saying you should switch, but maybe just think about it!

God answers prayer!

Well, as anyone who knows me knows too well, this year has started out pretty rough for me and my family. My kids have had a series of illnesses, which have been awful for them to go through, and have put major stress on us financially. My 2 year old in particular had been on 4 different antibiotics, two in November for an awful ear infection and two in January for an awful sinus infection. He had dropped down 5 pounds since November, from his normal 30 pounds. The other day I asked my sweet CAST team members (a group of wonderful Christian artists on Etsy) to pray with me for my son to gain back weight. I am so happy to say that within 36 hours, he gained back almost 3 pounds!!! Praise Jesus!!

Another thing that I had asked the CAST team to pray with me about was finding my lost antique ring. The ring was something I inherited when my great grandmother passed away in 2004. My grandma was very special to me, so much so that I named my daughter Hazel after her! The ring was her mother's, made in the early 1900s. So I was extremely upset that I could not find it, and it had been about three weeks since I saw it! Well praise Jesus even more!! I found it this morning, tucked in a pocket of my camera bag nice and safe!! I have been ecstatic all day that I found it!!

I have to say I am new to all this blogging stuff! I will try to keep you posted on what we are up to and what is new in my shops. I also have found some great sellers on etsy that will be featured here from time to time.

I also hope to post some before and after make over photos here! If you are interested in being one of my models, please drop me a line! I love to see how mineral makeup can highlight a woman's beauty, and hope to share that here!

For now I have to go, check back often as I plan to add lots to this blog!
